Pixel by Pixel – Stitch by Stitch
I am Alyssa Westhoek, a 27 year-old Dutch girl from Dutch-Canadian descent. I grew up in a fast growing city called Zoetermeer, close to The Hague in the Netherlands.
Crafting has always been a part of my life. My mother is a painter and a collage artist and I have definitely inherited her creativity and passion for creating. She’s a bit of a hoarder, which I guess I am too, if I need anything craft related I am sure to find it at hers – kind of like my own private craft store! Both my grandmothers loved to create things and there was always something crafty to do when I visited them.
I started doing pixel art at a young age. My dad had gotten me an old computer from his work and I started fiddling around with paint. I didn’t pick up cross stitching again until a few years ago, but was immediately hooked. I soon realized that I could combine these two hobbies and create my own unique cross stitch projects. These projects are what you will find at Stitchonomy!
I was the Feature Designer of the 2016 Summer issue of Cross Stitch & Needlework Magazine and have been featured in Cross Stitch Crazy and The World of Cross Stitching.
I also run a translation and editing company and am currently doing an MA program (Literary Studies) at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands. I work from home where I live with my boyfriend and our three rats.
If I’m not designing, working or studying I love to read, write and work in my vegetable and herb garden.
